Kazakhstan may soon establish its first-ever national cryptocurrency reserve, according to Timur Suleimenov, Chairman of the National Bank, in response to an official inquiry from parliament members. The central bank is currently developing the project’s concept, drawing on international experience. One key scenario involves delegating management functions to a specialized subsidiary focused on alternative investments. Suleimenov noted that placing the reserve under the control of a centralized institution would ensure proper oversight and effective risk management. Potential sources for the crypto reserve inсlude confiscated digital assets and cryptocurrencies mined with state involvement. Launching the mechanism will require amendments to legislation and consultations with law enforcement and other relevant agencies. The National Bank has already invited members of parliament to participate in the development of the initiative and discuss legal and operational details. Earlier in June, the central bank approved the issuance of crypto payment cards linked to wallets on licensed exchanges within the AIFC – another step toward integrating digital assets into the country’s financial systеm. While institutional solutions are still in the planning stage, users can already access simple and practical tools. Fastex.biz offers the option to convert cryptocurrencies into KZT and withdraw them to bank cards – including Visa/MasterCard, Kaspi, Halyk Bank, Jysan, Freedom Bank, ForteBank, CenterCredit, and Eurasian Bank. This makes transitioning from crypto to tenge fast and convenient.
