Cybersecurity experts are warning of increased abuse of OpenClaw AI, an open source artificial intelligence software originally designed to automate data processing tasks. In recent weeks, experts have recorded a significant increase in the number of incidents when attackers use OpenClaw AI to create complex phishing schemes and steal cryptocurrencies.
According to analysts, for March 2026, the number of phishing attempts using modified versions of OpenClaw AI increased by 37%. Such attacks are highly automated: AI algorithms generate personalized messages and fake web pages, making them difficult to detect by traditional defenses.
As a result of one of the largest attacks carried out with the help of OpenClaw AI, more than 12,000 users worldwide were affected, and the total damage is estimated at $8.5 million. Experts emphasize that attackers use open source code to introduce malicious modules capable of bypassing modern authentication and protection systems.
Experts recommend that organizations and individuals strengthen security measures, including two-factor authentication and regular software updates. OpenClaw AI developers are already working to implement additional protection mechanisms and cooperate with global incident response centers.
