Bitget, one of the world’s leading cryptocurrency exchanges, has announced the complete cessation of its operations in Japan. The decision takes effect immediately and is due to the tightening of digital asset regulations in the country. This development significantly impacts thousands of Japanese traders, who are now forced to seek alternative platforms for trading cryptocurrencies.

Over the past two years, the Japanese digital asset market has grown by 14%, and the number of registered users on crypto exchanges has exceeded 5 million. However, stricter licensing requirements and anti-money laundering measures have forced international platforms to rethink their strategies for operating in the region.

In an official statement, Bitget noted that all Japanese user accounts will be closed and assets returned within the coming weeks. The exchange emphasized that the decision was made to comply with local laws and ensure customer safety.

Experts believe that Bitget’s exit could strengthen the position of local licensed players and boost confidence in regulated platforms. However, for many traders, this means an additional burden and the need to urgently transfer their funds.

Japanese regulators continue to tighten their oversight of the cryptocurrency industry, which, according to analysts, contributes to long-term stability but simultaneously limits access to innovative international services.
